Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 25th, from 3–5 PM and join us for a boo-rific afternoon of fun for the whole family! This year’s BooFest will feature our beloved Trunk-or-Treat, spooky entertainment, festive crafts, and so much more!
But we can’t pull it off without your help…
👻 Join the BooFest Committee!
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us plan and organize the event. Committee meetings are held virtually once a week and only take 30–45 minutes of your time.

We're also in need of:
- Mad Scientists
- Tarot Card Readers
- Face Painters
- Decorated Trunks for Trunk-or-Treat
Don’t worry—Burr PTO will provide candy for all participating trunks!
Let’s make this year’s BooFest another unforgettable experience for our kids. Without enough volunteers, we may have to cancel—so please consider helping however you can!

🪔 Diwali - The Festival Of Lights 🪔
Join us in celebrating the Festival of Lights at our Diwali Event on Saturday, November 8th from 3:00–5:00 PM in the Burr Cafeteria! Families will enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with delicious Indian food, a henna station, and a crafts table for kids to get creative. Groove to Bollywood beats with an energetic BollyX dance session, cheer on our kids’ dance performances, and don’t miss the festive fashion show!
If your child would like to participate in the fashion show, please email pooja@burrpto.org with your child’s name, outfit type (male/female), and size. We’ll do our best to arrange an outfit—availability is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We’ll also be playing Diwali Bingo and organizing more fun activities for all ages!

🔈Join Us for Election Day Fun at Burr!
🗳Drop off some baked goods or bring your family for a day of supporting voters and raising funds at Burr on this Election Day. The bake sale table will be set up inside the school from 8AM–6PM.
Option 1: Donate Baked Goods – Bake or buy treats to donate! Make sure they’re individually wrapped (Ziploc bags work perfectly). You can drop off baked goods on Monday, November 3rd between 8AM–6PM at the Burr School front door, where a donation bin will be available — or bring them directly on Tuesday, November 4th during the bake sale event. Sign up to donate here.
Option 2: Help at the Table – Be part of the fun by selling baked goods to support the Burr community. Sign up to volunteer for helping here.

SAVE THE DATE and VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
We’re excited to bring back our joint celebration of Diwali and Día de los Muertos celebration this year! The event will be held on Saturday, November 8th from 3–5 PM in the Burr School cafeteria.
We are looking for volunteers who would like to help with the planning of Dia de los Muertos, specifically, if you’d like to set up an ofrenda, do a performance, or share something related to Dia de los Muertos, please contact us at - pooja@burrpto.org.

🎨 Sign Up For Halloween Window Painting
Registration is now open for the 26th annual Halloween Window Painting event in Newton. This year's painting takes place on Saturday, October 25 (rain date Sunday October 26) in seven villages across the city. Newton students in grades 3-8 are invited to paint Halloween images on participating merchant windows in all these villages. Sign up today to make sure you get a spot in your preferred village and share your artistic talent with your community. Details and registration info can be found here.
Save the Date! Newton Children’s Book Festival
Join us for the 2nd Annual Newton Children’s Book Festival on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 11 am – 3 pm at the New Art Center (61 Washington Park, Newtonville).
This free family event will feature more than 60 children’s book authors and illustrators—including award-winners Brian Lies, Christopher Denise, Rajani LaRocca, Raul the Third, and Jonathan Todd! Kids can meet their favorite creators, get books signed (available for purchase from Newtonville Books), and enjoy a craft table. Teachers also receive a 20% discount on books.
