NEWTON SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

Thank a Teacher

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7-11
#ThankATeacher and support Newton Schools Foundation!

If you are looking for a way to say “Thank You!” during Teacher Appreciation Week, please consider Newton Schools Foundations’ Honor Thy Teacher campaign. This special program, established more than 20 years ago, provides an opportunity for families to thank teachers or other school personnel by giving a gift to NSF in their honor.

NSF is a non-profit organization that raises funds to enhance educational excellence throughout Newton's public schools. Your gift supports opportunities for teachers to access valuable professional development, initiatives to close the achievement gap, and new learning programs for elementary students that encompass music, science, social and cultural studies, literature and writing instruction, and social-emotional learning.

After receiving each donation (suggested amount: $25/teacher), NSF will:

  • Notify the honored teachers and staff of your gift;
  • Share the honoree names with the Superintendent and Principals; and
  • List each of those honored in the Newton TAB.

You can make your tax-deductible donation on-line at www.newtonschoolsfoundation.org, or mail it to Newton Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 590020, Newton Centre, MA 02459. Please be sure to include the names of the teachers and/or staff that you are honoring.  Or look for a flyer that will be sent home in your child’s backpack that includes a donation form.

May Fair—Saturday, May 19, 2018

WHAT IS MAY FAIR??
The May Fair started in the 60’s as a community-building event led by some dedicated parents. Back then; it was a swap meet with some simple games and grill. Times have changed, but it’s still a fun community event.

Families enjoy a variety of activities for children and adults including: games of chance and skill, face painting, inflatable games and bounce house, arts and crafts… and weather-permitting, a Teacher Dunk Tank! We’ll also hold our famous Cake Decorating contest and plenty of great food and treats for sale.

In order for the May Fair to be a success, we need support from the Burr Community. See link below to sign up for a shift during the May Fair. We also have a bake sale, see link to sign up to contribute an item.

World Cultures Celebration—April 28, 2018

Burr’s World Cultures Celebration is being held on April 28, 4:00-6:30, and we need your help or if you “loan” us your older Burr Alum, we will happily put them to work!

Currently, we have 18 countries represented: Russia, Armenia, Nigeria, Ireland, Pakistan, Kenya, Jamaica, Israel, India, Venezuela, Spain, Greece, China, Zimbabwe, Canada, Haiti, Mexico, and South Korea.

Don’t see your country? Don’t even see the good old USA (yes, that’s right: America needs representation too)? Well, there’s still time to volunteer to host a room representing your native or ancestral country, or you can jump in and assist a family with their hosting. Each country will receive up to $40 to offset the cost of their supplies

And don’t forget that we also need volunteers to help setup, cleanup, and bring stuff, namely small plate foods, drinks, water and cutlery. Please take a look at this Signup to see where you can help: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0A4CAFA82DA1F49-world

Many thanks,
Your World Cultures Celebration Team
