THE BURR PTO PRESENTS

Thank You, Burr Community!

What a super year it has been! Thank you to all of the members of the Burr community who made this year possible. So many of you supported our kids and our school by donating money and/or time to help make this school year a huge success, and we cannot thank you enough. Some of the things that were made possible this year thanks to the support of this community:
  • Community Building: Fun community events like the Back to School and End of the Year Picnics; BooFest and May Fair. Amazing opportunities to share and learn about each other's cultures at Dia de los Muertos, Diwali, Lunar New Year and World Cultures celebrations. Informative and important discussions led by FORJ at Book Clubs and Movie Nights.
  • Educational Support: Programs that enhance the classroom experience like the Creative Arts & Sciences, Child Abuse Prevention, Understanding our Differences and Garden Days programming. In addition, new library books, teacher/classroom supplies, and teacher/staff appreciation and recognition help show support for our teachers and staff.
  • Playground Improvements: Significant upgrades to outdoor play spaces including new timbers, new accessible matting, picnic tables and a Gaga Ball pit help improve the safety, inclusivity and fun our kids and the broader community can enjoy.

Finally, we'd like to take a moment to give a special thanks to a few members of the PTO Board who are finishing their terms this year. Alyssa Haggerty, Pam Rajasekhar and Jenn Reale are all wrapping up after serving on the board for the last few years. Their ideas, energy and support has been invaluable through a particularly tough time, and we are so grateful for all that they have contributed!

The Burr Garden Needs You!

Did your kid come home in early June raving about their experience with the Burr Garden? If so, please consider adopting the Garden for a week or two this summer (sign up here). We need families to claim weeks to water (a few times in the week you claim). We will train you, it is not hard, ~30 min each time, 3-4 times per week. We would be so grateful if we could get this filled with summer volunteers. Thank you! Email garden@burrpto.org if you have any questions.

Check the Lost and Found One Last Time!

Ms. Young administers an online version of the Burr Lost and Found. Click here to check it out before summer!

Over and Out from the Buzz . . . for Now!

Thank you for reading the Burr Buzz this year! We're going to take a break from emailing every Sunday, and we'll pick back up against in late August or early September.

Each week the Buzz is a collaboration between the PTO Board, Burr community members, and a dedicated team of Buzz editors who organize, format, design, and proofread each entry. Please give thanks to our 2021–22 editors when you see them––they are Marta Barriga, Alyssa Haggerty, Abby Holstein, Dave Lievens, Kayla Noblecilla, and Spencer Poole

We hope that you have found the Buzz to be helpful and informative each week. If you have any feedback, or if you'd like to get involved with the Buzz next school year, please get in touch with dave@burrpto.org

Burr Garden Days - next steps - sign up to water!

The Burr students were delightful, amazing, and all-around fabulous on June 6th & 7th last week as they learned about the Burr Garden, learned the Garden Rules (go ahead, ask them what these are!), and planted some things that related to their grade level curriculum. Please thank your kids profusely on our behalf :)

Now that the seeds have been planted, we from the Garden Team have a request! Please have your family consider adopting the garden for a week or two (or more!) over the summer.  We need folks to water the plots to help our plants grow. We will tell you absolutely everything you need to know to handle the week - so if you are around and interested, please sign up here!  Lastly, we are seeking donations of tomato cages, temporary bird/bunny fencing, and perennial herb starts. If you have any to spare please email garden@burrpto.org.

Earth Science—Thursday, June 9th

This program describes the three basic rock types, their origins, characteristics, and the definition of a mineral. Students choose a rock and try to identify it by its characteristics. They grow crystals, view phosphorescent rocks, and make sedimentation chambers to experiment with at home.

Creative Arts and Sciences programs are fully funded by the Burr School PTO.
Parents are welcome to attend, but no younger siblings please.
