THE BURR PTO PRESENTS

Next SUNDAY, Nov 5th 3-5 pm:

Burr’s Beloved Celebration of Diwali

& Día de Los Muertos!

Please join us for a fun afternoon celebrating two wonderful cultural holidays! We will have performances of Ramleela play, dancing, music, storytelling, crafts, food, and a community Altar. This year we are excited to teach the basic steps of traditional Garba dance, and all interested Burr students, alums, and families can perform together. We will also have returning performer Rosalba from La Pinata, who promises to bring us another magical musical and storytelling performance. All are welcome and encouraged to join both celebrations, so bring your dancing shoes!

What to bring:

  • Cash for delicious food & face painting. We have an amazing lineup of Indian and Mexican snacks and desserts, including Tamales, Samosas, Mexican Sweet Bread (Pan de Muerto), Sugar and Chocolate Skulls (Calaveritas)  and Indian sweet treats! Thirsty? Try some Traditional Mexican hot chocolate, Chai tea, or our delicious Mango Lassi!
  • A reusable water bottle.  Help us have a greener event by bringing your reusable water bottle for you and your family!
  • Photos of YOUR DECEASED loved ones. Friends, family, or pets and any OFRENDA you would like to memorialize them on our beautiful COMMUNITY ALTAR. See photos below!
  • Festive Attire. Dress in your best Diwali or Día de Los Muertos attire if you can and join our celebration! There will be calavera face painting available for cash and the best Calavera costume will be rewarded. A Diwali photo booth will also be available to memorialize our fun afternoon and attire!

Volunteers:

We still have lots of volunteer needs! If you can spare an hour, it would be greatly appreciated! No school event can happen without your help, so if you have an hour to spare or any food donations for that day, please sign up.

This is a FREE event, and everyone is welcomed. RSVP is not mandatory but helps us prepare to make it a successful event. See you on Sunday!

BooFest 🎃 2023 is next Sunday!

Our much loved annual tradition returns this Sunday October 22, 2023 from 3:00pm- 5:00pm. BooFest is a fun family event, and for a third year we are bringing the outdoor Trunk or Treat back, plus DJ, games and much more! But, most importantly we NEED YOUR HELP!

Trunk or Treat: We still need volunteers. Without cars and volunteers, we can't have a successful Trunk or Treat. Let your creativity soar with this great opportunity to decorate your trunk so the kids can get treats and win a prize. Start planning early and sign up for our Trunk or Treat. Details and sign up here.
Volunteers:  We need baked donations and volunteers for our stations. A successful BooFest is only possible with everyone's help! Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. We welcome Burr Alums and also 5th grade helpers! Sign up here.
RSVP: Given the size of this event last year, we wanted to  try to gauge how many families might be attending BooFest 2023! Please take a moment to RSVP here - it's not mandatory but helps us know how many crafts, prices etc we may need.

Please Donate Candy for Trunk or Treat at BooFest!

Jax is back to help us once again for our BooFest Trunk or Treat. He loves Halloween candy and treats, and he will be with us formal this week outside of the Burr School office collecting candy and treat donations. We will also setup a table in the morning of Monday and Thursday, you are welcomed to drop off candy donations.
Jax and the PTO need your help to make this a BIG success and super fun time for our children. Donations are highly encouraged to make sure that we have enough treats for all of our families. Make sure the candy you donate is individually wrapped. Thank you!!
