Opportunity to Volunteer at the 5th Grade Winter Concert - Wed, Jan 8th

Ms. Barker (our Burr music teacher) is looking for a few parents to help at the 5th grade winter concert. If you are available and interested on Wednesday, January 18th - here’s the request:
“Volunteers would help students line up in the correct order as soon as they arrive in the gym so that they're ready to go on stage for chorus. They will make sure that the kids are staying seated, not playing instruments, and are talking quietly while other groups are on stage. Volunteers would be there from 6:45 to about 7:30 pm (give or take a little bit on the end time).”

Email barkere@newton.k12.ma.us if you are available and interested! 🎡🎢🎡

Green Initiatives by Burr Student Council

The Burr Student Council has launched some 'green' initiatives! Burr School now has collection bins for the following items:

  • Plastic film (e.g. bread bags, plastic shopping bags, plastic packaging, bubble wrap) (Click HERE for more info)
  • Used batteries
  • Dried out markers
Please send these items to school with your child. The collection bins are located outside the library and the learning center/ELL room across from Ms. Espinal's first-grade classroom.

Burr School Council needs a Community Representative

We are looking for a community representative to join the Burr School Council.  The Council will assist and advise the Principal in adopting education goals and creating a school improvement plan. The group will likely meet 3 times this winter/spring. The Council consists of teachers, parents, the Principal, and community members. We already have several parent representatives, but if you know a neighbor or friend, who is not a Burr parent/guardian, and might be interested in joining the Council-- please email amie@burrpto.org for more information.

 THE BURR PTO PRESENTS

The Wolf Fund is our annual giving campaign for the Burr PTO and runs from October to January.  The money raised provides the majority of funding for PTO activities through the year. Our goal is to raise $25,000 through the Wolf Fund with at least half of Burr families giving a gift of any amountIf we reach our goals, the PTO plans to spend about $106 per student on things like community activities, educational enrichment programming, and playground improvements. We still have a ways to go towards our goal and are behind our progress last year.  If you have not donated yet this year, please consider making your tax-deductible gift of any amount to the Wolf Fund today.

Get a BURR car magnet with a $60 donation!

As an added incentive, all families who donate $60 or more to the Wolf Fund through January (including those who have already given) will be eligible to receive one coveted Burr School car magnet! You can even choose to make a recurring donation of $5 a month to spread your donation across the year.
