Students are presented with the engineering design challenge to build a bridge that will transport a defined number of people, modeled by weights. Students design, build, and test prototype bridges. During testing, they identify the failure points of their models and use these results to improve their designs, rebuild, and retest.
Date: Monday, May 20
Each 3rd grade class will have a presentation in its classroom:
Join us! Parents are encouraged to attend, but no younger siblings, please.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Burr FORJ is excited to share that Story Starters will lead its
Family Conversations program at Burr School next fall!
Join: Register here!
When: Oct 6th - Nov 24th, 2024
What: StoryStarters uses the power of children’s literacy to support family conversations around race and racism. In this eight-week program, families receive six books tailored to children’s ages to foster meaningful conversations at home,
resources to help parents lead conversations with their children, two in-person events at Burr featuring special guest speakers, two virtual parent workshops, and access to Story Starters staff to answer questions and provide support.
Who: The program is designed for children ages 3-8 and their families, but siblings and older students are welcome too!
Cost: The suggested fee is $125, but there is a sliding scale for enrollment and we are committed to removing all barriers to participation for families.
Want to come plant in the Burr Garden with your student's classroom? Sign up to volunteer here. On May 20th and 23rd, each class comes to the Burr Garden for 30 minutes to learn about the rules of the garden, engage with a lesson that relates to their curriculum, and plant something in their class plot! It is always so delightful to have some parent volunteers. No gardening experience is necessary.

These roles require 6–12 hours per month, including monthly board meetings and various committee and community meetings, typically held in the evenings via Zoom.
If you're enthusiastic about building community and enhancing our students' educational experience, consider joining us! Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or new to the community, we welcome your interest. Reach out to any current board member or email info@burrpto.org for more details.
