FORJ event -- End of Year Picnic



Please join us, along with other FORJ chapters, at a community picnic! We’d like to gather together before the end of the school year to make new connections and solidify old ones. Please consider attending even if you’ve never attended a FORJ event before - we’d love to meet you!

When: Thursday, May 29th 5:30-7pm

Where: Hyde Playground (90 Lincoln St, Newton Highlands, MA 02461)

What: We’ll provide pizza, some veggies, and drinks. 

            Feel free to bring a snack to share, but it’s not required at all.

CAS Event - 5th Grade



The 5th Grade will have a CAS Event with the Acton Discovery Museum about the Chemistry Lab.  Colorful chemical reactions spark creative scientific exploration. Students discover the difference between a physical and chemical reaction while they change and monitor the pH of various household liquids.

SEPAC Awards accepting nominations through May 19th 2025



Newton Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)


The annual SEPAC Awards are now open for nominations through May 19th! Interested in nominating an exceptional NPS or Out of District teacher and/or staff member for the difference they have made in your student with a disability's life this past academic year? Here’s how the process works:

  • All celebratory nominations will be recognized
  • The week of June 16th, your nominee will receive:
    • An email with the kind words you wrote about them and a short slideshow of anonymized nominations lifting up the good work taking place across the district.
    • A printed SEPAC Award certificate delivered to their school. 
    • Each principal will receive a list of nominees from their school.

Do you need to nominate everyone from your student’s team? Please only nominate the teachers and staff members who you feel have been exceptional!



SEPAC Board Nominations Open Until May 27th!

Please consider nominating yourself or another parent or guardian to serve on the 2025-2027 Newton SEPAC Board to keep our SEPAC strong! Nominees must be a parent or guardian of a student with a disability and/or special needs (with or without an IEP or 504) enrolled in Newton Public Schools or Out of District placement. New officers take office on June 30th. 


To learn more about the roles of Chair or Co-Chairs (1-3), Secretary (1), Treasurer (1), Liaison Chair (1), Program Chair(s) (1-2), and Communications Chair (1), please visit the SEPAC Bylaws, and/or feel free to reach out to any board member at: info@newtonsepac.org. Please note, the SEPAC Board just revised its bylaws so the board roles and terms have changed to 2 years, but if you are interested in running and are unsure of serving beyond 1 year, we encourage you to still run!


Election Timeline:

  • May 13-27: Nomination period: You can nominate yourself or other candidates for Board positions here.
  • May 27-June 3: Nominees confirm if they’d like to run, write brief personal statements about why they’re interested in serving on the SEPAC Board, and what role(s) they would be willing to serve in
  • June 3-10: Nominees’ personal statements shared on the SEPAC listserv and online voting opens 
  • June 10: Nominees are notified of the election results. New board members meet between June 11-18 to decide on board roles. 
  • June 18: New board members are announced on the SEPAC listserv
  • June 30: New officers take office

Burr PTO wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and helped make Staff Appreciation Week (May 5–9) such a huge success!

Whether you dropped off the Grab & Go Breakfast, fruits, yogurt, granola bars or other treats, it all made a difference.

We are so grateful to be part of such a generous and supportive community. Thank you for helping us show our appreciation in such a meaningful way.

CAS Event - The Caterpillar Lab



We’re excited to welcome The Caterpillar Lab, an engaging and educational program that brings the amazing world of caterpillars to life! Through live demonstrations and up-close encounters, students will explore the incredible transformation from caterpillar to butterfly and learn about the important role these creatures play in our environment. This hands-on experience encourages
curiosity, observation, and a love for the natural world.  

It’s sure to be a memorable experience for our second graders!

ArtQuest Early American Art

This program offers students an introduction to art in the colonial period and beyond. Specifically, they’ll view folk and colonial art from before and after the American Revolution, including artifacts, individual portraits, family portraits, engravings and historical paintings. Together, these works of art tell the story of this important time in history.

Newton Public Schools’ Office of Student Services and the Newton SEPAC present 
“Let’s Talk Reading! How children learn to read, and why creating a strong community is important” by Dr. Nadine Gaab, world-renowned literacy expert and Newton parent.

BURR SCHOOL MAYFAIR

-MAY 17th 2-5pm



Get ready for a fantastic family day at the Burr School Mayfair on Saturday, May 17th, from 2–5pm! Kids can bounce and race through our bouncy house, get creative with arts and crafts, and enjoy a variety of classic and new games. Enjoy live music from Army of Frogs-a band of Burr School 5th graders-provided by Parallel Sound Studio, keeping the melodious vibe going all day long.

Refuel at our concessions stand with hot dogs, drinks, snacks, and delicious baked goods. Don’t miss the chance to take aim at your favorite Burr teacher or staff member in our Pie in the Face event! Show off your creativity in the Cake Decorating Contest-bring a cake decorated around our “Toys and Games” theme.

Raffle tickets will also be available, giving you even more chances to win and join in the fun!

Tickets are just $10 per child or $25 per family (for families with three or more kids). Join us for a day packed with laughter, music, and community fun!

MAY 4th-8th 2025



Staff Appreciation Week is coming up May 4–8, 2025, and we want to invite you to show our teachers and staff how much they mean to us!

Each day will feature a special treat or activity for our staff, and we’re looking for parents to sign up to drop off goodies like breakfast items, snacks, desserts, and more.

Here’s a sneak peek at the week:

  • Thursday: Staff Lunch

CAS event - Historical Women: Sally Ride

presented by Sheryl Faye


Sally Ride was America's first woman astronaut - and the youngest, having flown her first shuttle mission at age 32. As we dramatize Sally's full life from age 8 through her adulthood, students will help her with STEM experiments, including chemistry, physics, rocketry, vibration, and engineering.

CAS Event - Artquest:

Native North American Indigenous Art



A study of the creations of the native civilizations. This program compares four regions and multiple nations from these regions, the Northwest Coast, the Southwest, the Woodlands and the Plains. Students observe the daily objects that native peoples used for survival. These objects were beautifully created to enhance the environment and express magic and mystery. By viewing clothing, shelters, weapons, masks, pottery and baskets from different regions and tribes, students will understand how the geographical location and natural resources influenced the works of art.

- Discovery Museum - Bubbles



Students challenge what they think they know about bubbles as they make new observations, pose questions, investigate, and discuss their findings.

·       How long does a bubble last?

·       What color is a bubble?

·       Can you predict when a bubble will pop?
