Looking for a fun way to get involved at Burr? Volunteer in Ms. Patino’s library class and be part of your students’ learning experience!
Sign up for one session or twenty—you choose! You don’t need to volunteer during your own child’s class. Volunteers help organize shelves and assist students with checking books in and out.

🎃BooFest is Back — And We Need YOU!🎃
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 24th, from 3–5 PM and join us for a boo-rific afternoon of fun for the whole family! This year’s BooFest will feature our beloved Trunk-or-Treat, spooky entertainment, festive crafts, and so much more!
But we can’t pull it off without your help...

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us plan and organize the event. Committee meetings are held virtually once a week and only take 30–45 minutes of your time. If interested, reach out to Michelle at michelle@burrpto.org.

Grown-Ups Night Out: Saturday, November 14

Line up a sitter and join fellow Burr parents for an adults-only night out. Catch up with friends, meet new families, and enjoy a night where nobody asks you for a snack.
A portion of the proceeds supports the Burr PTO Caring Committee, which helps Burr families through life's challenges and celebrations. That looks like a take-out dinner after a surgery or a new baby, a get-well basket for a student recovering at home, and a welcome bag for families who join Burr mid-year.
When: Saturday, November 14, 6:00 to 8:30 PM
Where: Brewer's Tap and Table, 256 Moody St, Waltham
Tickets: $35 per person, includes food (cash bar)

Help Burr PTO Win the Challenge!
Work out and give back at Cardio High in Auburndale! From September 25, Cardio High in Auburndale is hosting a fundraising competition, "Burr vs. Williams." Every time a Burr parent works out, Cardio High will donate $4 to Burr PTO—and when a new Burr parent tries a workout, Cardio High will donate $30. There is no fee for new clients, so your first workout is completely free!
The score after 3 days is Williams 28. Burr 4.

Newton Schools Foundation
We are delighted to welcome you at the start of the 2026-27 school year!
A new school year always ignites opportunities for learning, growth, and adventure. Newton Schools Foundation’s unique role as a longstanding, volunteer-run nonprofit and partner of the Newton Public Schools enables us to support these opportunities and open doors to new possibilities for students and teachers across the district.
Thanks to your generosity, Newton Schools Foundation was able to award 48 grants to Newton teachers last year, reaching schools across all of Newton's public schools. As the new school year begins, we are eager to continue our efforts to fund grants that bring district-wide impact and enhance teaching and learning from preschool through high school.
As the school year is off and running, so are we. Speaking of running, if you or someone you know would like to apply to run the Boston Marathon and fundraise on behalf of Newton Schools Foundation, please complete and/or share our runner application. The deadline to apply is October 25, 2026.
We look forward to building community through our events and campaigns. Mark your calendars for the following special events, with more information coming soon:
- December 3, 2026 - Newton Schools Foundation Open House
- March 12, 2027 - Newton Schools Foundation's 3rd Annual Trivia Night, a fundraising event full of fun, community, and both friendly and intense competition!

6th Annual Indigenous Peoples Day Newton
Please join us for the 6th Annual Indigenous Peoples Day Newton Ceremonial Celebration on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM–5:00 PM at Albemarle Field in Newton.
We would be grateful if you would share this invitation with your students, families, teachers, and school community.
Indigenous Peoples Day Newton is a free, family-friendly, Indigenous-led community celebration that brings Indigenous leaders, elders, artists, dancers, educators, vendors, and community members from throughout New England and beyond to Newton.
This year's theme is “Medicines of the Lands: Healing Through Ancestral Plants.” Families will have an opportunity to experience Indigenous music, dance, cultural presentations, traditional teachings, food, art, and more.
But we are also asking our Newton community for help.
We rely heavily on Newton residents to make this celebration possible. Indigenous dignitaries, elders, cultural leaders, artists, dancers, and families will be traveling to our city to share their cultures, traditions, knowledge, and communities with us. We want them to feel genuinely welcomed and to experience the very best of Newton.
There are three important ways Newton families can help:
Attend.
Bring your family, learn, celebrate, meet our guests, support Indigenous artists and vendors, and be part of this special day.
Volunteer.
This is a large, volunteer-run event, and we need community members to help us welcome guests, assist vendors and elders, support activities, help with setup and cleanup, and keep the day running smoothly. Adults, families, and students looking for community-service opportunities are encouraged to participate.

Indigenous Peoples Day Newton is free to attend, but it is not free to put on. Donations and sponsorships help us cover the costs of bringing Indigenous artists, educators, dancers, elders, and cultural leaders to Newton, as well as the many logistical expenses necessary to produce a safe and welcoming community event.

Bring your own dinner or order pizza through the Burr PTO for $16 per pie. 80% of proceeds cover food costs, and 20% support our Burr Wolf Fund.
Please note: Pizza orders must be placed by 1:00 PM on September 14. There will be no pizza sales at the event.
🙋 Volunteers Needed!
We’re also looking for volunteers to help make the picnic a success. We just need 20 minutes of your time!
