Please join the Burr PTO and SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council) for a discussion with Beth Fitzmaurice, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Newton Public Schools and Eliza Spaulding, SEPAC Liaison for the Burr School and SEPAC Board Member. Beth assumed her role in August 2019, and oversees NPS’ special education program, among other responsibilities. The discussion will be an opportunity for the Burr, Franklin, and Williams School communities to meet with Beth and Eliza, to learn more about their roles, and how the Office of Student Services works together with SEPAC.

Burr Auction!


The Burr Online Auction Launches THIS FRIDAY 1/17 at 3pm!   It will
last until Sunday 1/26 at 5 pm and we are so excited about the
generous donations that have come in!

This includes:  An African Safari, Free weeks at numerous camps
including Fessenden, Beaver, and more, Yoga & Mimosas for 20+ people,
Gourmet meals coked by Burr families, many gift certificates, and over
15 items donated by Burr teachers and administration!!! (Breakfast with a teacher and a ride to school, for example).   All of the proceeds benefit the Burr PTO and our initiatives.  Thank you in advance for bidding on all sorts of items and forwarding the auction

Creative Arts and Sciences Welcomes Artist Michael LaFosse: Origamadō (5th Grade)

gami from the Japanese word for paper, kami
dō the word for "way" or "path" 


Internationally renowned origami master Michael LaFosse teaches 5th grade students how  to make three-dimensional geometric designs while discovering the math connections with this amazing art form.  Michael has taught origami for over 30 years and is recognized as one of the top origami masters today with pieces in major museums throughout the world.

How would your life be different if you were born in the 1800s? 
Students will handle and examine 150-year old objects, photographs, textiles, tools, and other primary sources to piece together the story of daily life in 19th -century Newton.

1st Grade Program


WINGMASTERS! 


Tuesday, January 7th!


On Tuesday January 7th Wingmasters will present North American Birds of Prey to the first grade. 

North American birds of prey are also known as raptors, and their unique characteristics help them to hunt prey. Raptors also have the best eyesight and the sharpest hearing int he animal kingdom. Raptors include eagles, hawks, falcons and owls and this presentation will incorporate five live birds to teach about predation, the raptors' place at the top of the foodweb, their different hunting adaptations and their often endangered status in a rapidly changing world. 

Parents/caregivers welcome, but no younger siblings please. Thank you for your cooperation.
