CAS Event - The Caterpillar Lab



We’re excited to welcome The Caterpillar Lab, an engaging and educational program that brings the amazing world of caterpillars to life! Through live demonstrations and up-close encounters, students will explore the incredible transformation from caterpillar to butterfly and learn about the important role these creatures play in our environment. This hands-on experience encourages
curiosity, observation, and a love for the natural world.  

It’s sure to be a memorable experience for our second graders!

ArtQuest Early American Art

This program offers students an introduction to art in the colonial period and beyond. Specifically, they’ll view folk and colonial art from before and after the American Revolution, including artifacts, individual portraits, family portraits, engravings and historical paintings. Together, these works of art tell the story of this important time in history.

Let’s Talk Reading!

Newton Public Schools’ Office of Student Services and the Newton SEPAC present 
“Let’s Talk Reading! How children learn to read, and why creating a strong community is important” by Dr. Nadine Gaab, world-renowned literacy expert and Newton parent.

BURR SCHOOL MAYFAIR

-MAY 17th 2-5pm



Get ready for a fantastic family day at the Burr School Mayfair on Saturday, May 17th, from 2–5pm! Kids can bounce and race through our bouncy house, get creative with arts and crafts, and enjoy a variety of classic and new games. Enjoy live music from Army of Frogs-a band of Burr School 5th graders-provided by Parallel Sound Studio, keeping the melodious vibe going all day long.

Refuel at our concessions stand with hot dogs, drinks, snacks, and delicious baked goods. Don’t miss the chance to take aim at your favorite Burr teacher or staff member in our Pie in the Face event! Show off your creativity in the Cake Decorating Contest-bring a cake decorated around our “Toys and Games” theme.

Raffle tickets will also be available, giving you even more chances to win and join in the fun!

Tickets are just $10 per child or $25 per family (for families with three or more kids). Join us for a day packed with laughter, music, and community fun!

Staff Appreciation Week is coming up May 4–8, 2025, and we want to invite you to show our teachers and staff how much they mean to us!

Each day will feature a special treat or activity for our staff, and we’re looking for parents to sign up to drop off goodies like breakfast items, snacks, desserts, and more.

Here’s a sneak peek at the week:

CAS event - Historical Women: Sally Ride

presented by Sheryl Faye


Sally Ride was America's first woman astronaut - and the youngest, having flown her first shuttle mission at age 32. As we dramatize Sally's full life from age 8 through her adulthood, students will help her with STEM experiments, including chemistry, physics, rocketry, vibration, and engineering.

CAS Event - Artquest:

Native North American Indigenous Art



A study of the creations of the native civilizations. This program compares four regions and multiple nations from these regions, the Northwest Coast, the Southwest, the Woodlands and the Plains. Students observe the daily objects that native peoples used for survival. These objects were beautifully created to enhance the environment and express magic and mystery. By viewing clothing, shelters, weapons, masks, pottery and baskets from different regions and tribes, students will understand how the geographical location and natural resources influenced the works of art.

- Discovery Museum - Bubbles



Students challenge what they think they know about bubbles as they make new observations, pose questions, investigate, and discuss their findings.

·       How long does a bubble last?

·       What color is a bubble?

·       Can you predict when a bubble will pop?
