Parent Principal Coffee December 6

All Burr families are invited to attend the Parent Principal Coffee to discuss school start times on December 6 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. 


At the meeting, Ellen Gibson, a school committee member, will make a presentation about the working group's findings on school start times and possible new scenarios for school times in Newton and she will answer questions. Many of the possible scenarios will affect elementary school start (and dismissal) time. Please consider attending the Parent Principal Coffee to learn more about this important topic.

If you are unable to attend the meeting at Burr, please consider attending one of the other presentations on school start times. Burr families are welcome to attend any of these upcoming presentations.

Hey kids!!! Want to be a scientist and do a fun experiment, or be an engineer and build something cool? Want to tinker with building a machine or create an idea to help our world?

What is STEM? Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math!


 

REGISTRATION forms and all the details will be sent out before the winter holiday break. Maybe something fun to think about during that week off!

EXCITING FOR KIDS: The fun is in the tinkering! Perform an experiment or construct a gadget. Kids can work with their friends, siblings, or on their own.


EASY ON PARENTS: Kids can design their own project or choose from a science fair project website or book. Each project should fit on a 2’ x 3’ table space and should have a kid-quality poster to explain it. The main thing here: kid-quality!


FUN FOR EVERYONE: Any student can display a project (grades K-5). Participation is optional. There is no fee to participate. Everyone is welcome to come see the projects at the Science Fair.


KID QUALITY PROJECTS ONLY! Parent support is great (and probably necessary for younger students), but let the kids take the lead. Projects do not have to work perfectly. The idea is more important than the final product.


IT’S ABOUT LEARNING: The science fair is an exhibition and a chance for kids to learn, not a competition. Science fair projects should be simple and easy for kids to explain.

PARENT DEMONSTRATIONS: Parents, are you in a STEM career field or do you have a fun demonstration you would like to do during the science fair? We will have up to five parent-led demonstration areas during the science fair!! Registration for these will be included in the full registration form.

Cardio High Challenge Raises $250

Local gym, Cardio High sponsored a School vs School Team Challenge. It came down to the wire—Team Burr trailed Team Williams by 220 points in the morning on the final day.

Thanks to a few members who attended both a morning and afternoon session, Team Burr won! 

Owner Mark Goodman made a generous $250 donation to the Burr Wolf Fund.

Lighting celebration at City Hall December 1st

Start the Holiday Season off with a cheerful evening of song, hot chocolate and fun! Sing-along with the Stacey Peasley Band – an award-winning band whose music is joyful and playful – as they play your favorite holiday songs. Then, enjoy some hot chocolate courtesy of PhysicianOne Urgent Care, or tea from David’s Tea, and delicious snack bars donated by KIND, as you watch a “Rockettes” performance by Creative Dance Steps Studio.
