THE BURR PTO PRESENTS

Please donate to the Wolf Fund and help us reach its gold of raising $24,000. You can contribute to the Wolf Fund by sending a check (made payable to Burr PTO) in your child's folder or from the "Donate" button on the PTO's website at  https://www.burrpto.org.

We greatly appreciate any and all contributions! Every contribution makes a difference in our students' experience at Burr. And everyone who donates to the Wolf Fund by October 31 will be entered into a drawing to win a fabulous Family Game Night Basket.

What is the Burr Wolf Fund? It is the PTO's annual fall fundraiser that raises a significant portion of the PTO's budget and helps pay for the some of PTO's largest and most important  line items: Creative Arts and Sciences, teacher supplies and books for Burr's library.

Burr Online Auction Updates! New Dates, Parent Night, and Volunteers Needed

The Burr Online Auction has a new date! In order to beat the city camp signup rush, the Burr PTO has moved the Burr Online Auction up to January! The new dates will be Saturday, January 19th through Saturday, January 26th. Now you'll be able to bid on all the great camps offered in the auction and still sign up for all your city camp weeks in late January. Plus, we're adding a parent night to the mix! As part of the last day of the auction on January 26th, we will be holding a parent night at a location TBD. Come warm up and visit with all our great Burr parents, have a few pints, and get in your last minute bids. Details coming soon but mark your calendars for the auction and the January 26th parent night!

Volunteers needed: Anyone looking to volunteer to help out with the auction, or anyone in the Burr community with a business who would like to donate an item or service to the auction, please e-mail Laura Sexton at laurasexton1@hotmail.com. We love to promote Burr community businesses through the auction, and already have some great auction items lined up from our community. Thank you Burr families!

Shoo Flu!

Get the flu vaccine at school, not the flu!

Seasonal flu vaccination clinics will be held during the school day at the Newton Public Schools beginning in late September. Students in Kindergarten through grade 12 may receive vaccine.

The BURR SCHOOL clinic will be on October 17th. Each student to be vaccinated must have a parent/guardian complete two forms:

1. Consent/Screening form

2. Vaccine administration record/Insurance form.

Forms are available in the school nurse’s office, or may be downloaded at www.newtonma.gov/flu . You may electronically complete the form, print, sign and return. Forms are due to the School Nurse October 15th.

Only the flu shot (no nasal spray) will be offered at school this year. The Vaccine Information Statement about the flu shot, and additional information for families including tips on preparing kids for a shot is available at www.newtonma.gov/flu or in the school nurse’s office. There is no cost to receive the vaccine, but insurance information is requested. All students, regardless of insurance status, are invited to receive vaccine with parent permission.

Students are not required to receive flu vaccine, however the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends flu vaccine for all people age 6 months and up. There are many places to get a flu vaccine

including at school, your primary health care provider or community clinics. For additional clinic dates for the whole family, visit www.newtonma.gov/flu .

In addition to vaccination, it is important to practice good hand hygiene and cough etiquette by washing hands often; covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the arm; and staying home when sick.

Oops!

For unknown reasons, the Burr Buzz did not go out at is regularly scheduled time yesterday evening.  Here is this week's Burr Buzz.  Next week's should (hopefully!) go out at its regularly scheduled time.  Have a wonderful week!
