Picture Day is Happening Tuesday, November 2nd

The fifth time's the charm! Get excited for school photos (at last!) on Tuesday, November 2nd.

The Wolf Fund is our annual giving campaign for the Burr PTO. It runs from October to January and brings in the majority of funding that supports PTO activities through the year. This year, our goal is to raise $24,000 through the Wolf Fund with at least half of Burr families giving a gift of any amount.

What do donations pay for?

The Burr PTO funds a wide range of programs and activities that make our school community special. This year, the Burr PTO plans to spend more than $212 per student on:
  • Educational Support that enhance classroom and learning experiences like the Creative Arts & Sciences program, library purchases, technology spending, and teacher supplies.
  • Community Building activities that strengthen our ties to each other including Boo Fest, picnics, cultural events like the Diwali & Dia de los Muertos Celebration, and programs like Families Organizing for Racial Justice.
  • Playground Improvements that increase the safety, inclusivity, and fun our children and broader community enjoy every day.

Your gift in any amount helps support our school community.

Giving is easy. Choose any of these many ways to give to the Wolf Fund:
  • Give online. Click here to use your credit card, Paypal, or Venmo.
  • Text BURRPTO to 202-858-1233 to donate.
  • Send check made out to Burr PTO to school in your child's folder.
  • Mail a check made out to Burr PTO to Burr PTO / 171 Pine St. / Auburndale, MA 02466.

Election Day Bake Sale on Tuesday, November 2nd!

It's back—and outdoors! The Election Day Bake Sale is one of our favorite fundraisers for the Wolf Fund. We are looking for pre-packaged snack donations, as well as baked goods and people to staff the sales table. Burr has early release, so feel free to bring your students to the afternoon shifts. All baked goods should be individually wrapped.

Thanks so much for your support!

Diwali & Dia de Los Muertos Celebration

Please join us on Sunday, November 7th, from 2pm to 4pm at Burr for a fun afternoon to celebrate two unique cultural holidays! We will have performances of music, dancing, and storytelling as well as crafts, face painting, delicious foods for sale and a community altar to memorialize our deceased loved ones. The event is FREE and everyone is welcomed but if you are willing and able to make a donation to cover the expenses $5-$10 is suggested per family. Additionally, no school event can happen with our parent volunteers so if you have an hour to spare on that day please see the sign up genius below to sign up.

Newton’s Annual Pumpkin Smash—Saturday, November 6th

Green your Halloween at Newton's annual Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, November 6th, from 1pm-4pm.

What will you do with your pumpkin after Halloween? You could put it in with your yard waste, but how much more fun would it be to smash it? This family friendly event will be focused on options to manage food waste in Newton. All smashed pumpkins will be composted by Black Earth Composting. When you compost your pumpkin, you are reducing waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating a valuable amendment for our soils. It's going to be a smashing time!

Make sure you remove any candles or decorations from your pumpkin (paint is okay).

BooFest Wrap Up!

BooFest 2021—Outdoor Edition—is in the books! What an amazing afternoon!

So many people to thank: The Boo Crew and Boo Crew mentors, ALL of our amazing volunteers (many who just pitched in where it was needed Saturday afternoon!), treat donors, and bakers, our trunk hosts, Principal Johal and Betsy Juarez for coming to judge, our guest DJ Nicole Ellie, Camai Mazzulla for her balloon donation, Thaddeus for all his help with set up and clean up, and everyone who donated and attended! It was also so great to see so many Burr Alums pitch in to help!

The Trunks were all spectacular and so much fun! We heard lots of people say they would love more next year (so start thinking!). The winners were: Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Burr Wolf, the Pirate Trunk from Team K-Russo, and the Bat Trunk by Team 2-Roberts.

Our two pumpkin winners are below! We are searching for the artist of the heart pumpkin. If that's you please email alyssa@burrpto.org!

Thank you also to Yogurt Beach, Sweet Tomatoes, Wally's, and Tom's Pizza for donating our prizes!

As this was our first outdoor BooFest we'd love any feedback you may have! If you'd love to join next year's BooCrew we'd love to have you! Until next year...
