Volunteer to be a room parent

What is a Room Parent? Glad you asked!

Room Parents act as a liaison/communicator between teachers and class parents.  (This does not mean a lot of time spent in the classroom—much of the heavy lifting is done via email.) Room Parents also help the PTO spread the word about upcoming activities and volunteer opportunities.

At least two Room Parents are needed for each classroom. No experience necessary!

If you’re a newbie, this is a great way to get to know your child’s teacher. If you’re a seasoned Burr vet, we’d love to have you volunteer again.

Room Parents

A unique opportunity for parent involvement underneath the umbrella of PTO activities is being a Room Parent. Each grade level classroom at Burr has at least two parents assigned as Room Parents.~ These parents work in partnership with the classroom teacher to provide support and volunteer assistance to the teacher, as well as to serve as a liaison between the teacher and the rest of the students and parents. Applications for Room Parents are sent home in student folders at the beginning of each school year.

Each teacher meets with his or her Room Parents at the beginning of the year to discuss their needs. The tasks vary from teacher to teacher, but generally support is requested for assisting with communication, implementing special projects, and coordinating teacher appreciation celebrations each spring.~ Room Parents may also be called upon to help promote school-wide PTO programs and activities, as their personal relationships with other parents in the classroom help promote a sense of community within the school.
