Winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, SONITA tells the story of an 18 year-old Afghan refugee living in Iran with dreams of being a rapper. Not only is it illegal for women to sing in public in Iran, but her family also wants to send her back home where she is worth $9000 as a bride.
Speaker: Nano Raies, originally from Homs, Syria, and a voice student at Berklee College of Music.
