Newton is proud to be a founding member of METCO, the second oldest voluntary inter-district school assignment program in the country dedicated to increasing diversity. Our participation in the program has brought families together, built bridges across racial, ethnic, and cultural lines, and enriched the lives of all it has touched. It has brought deeper racial and cultural understanding to our students, staff, and the entire Newton community and prepared our students to succeed in a diverse global community.
On Saturday, April 29th, we will celebrate those who built the METCO program in Newton, as well as the community leaders, state officials, and school administrators who have supported the program over the years. Most importantly, we will celebrate the families, both host and participant, who have inspired so many with their commitment, generosity, and ongoing dedication to the program.
