Tara Ahmed's Taal Tales — Thursday, May 18

Dressed in traditional classical Indian dance costume, Tara Ahmed will perform dances celebrating different deities and show us the rhythmic footwork and the language of the symbolic hand movements she uses to tell stories through dance. Her demonstration also includes a simple history of classical Indian dance, focusing on the vibrant style of Kuchipudi.

Students will have a chance to learn to use basic rhythms and hand movements to tell their own stories. Questions are encouraged!

Tara has performed and taught internationally. She founded and directed the Lasandhi Dance Theater and performed the title role in “Chitra,” presented by the Fleet Boston Celebrity Series.
