THE BURR PTO PRESENTS

SAVE THE DATE! The First Ever Burr PTO Diversity Chat on Race: January 9

The first ever Diversity Chat on Race will be held on January 9, 2018 from 7:00-8:45pm

Please join us in the Burr Cafetorium for an evening of insightful and necessary conversation on how we, as parents, and as a community, can create an environment that accepts and celebrates our rich and varied racial diversity. Roland Davis, PhD, Harvard University Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, and former Burr Dad, will discuss how unconscious bias and stereotype threat can affect academic performance and the steps we can take to minimize its impact on students of color.

Roland has been a clinical therapist and an administrator at both the secondary and post secondary level, and has worked to help institutions improve the experience of students of color academically and socially.

Rabbi Allison Berry of Temple Shalom will also join us to discuss the importance of standing up to antisemitism and racism. Additionally, parents representing other schools involved with the Newton Public School supported group FORJ, Families Organizing For Racial Justice, are also invited to attend.
