THE BURR PTO PRESENTS

Lunar New Year at Burr - Feb. 10

We can't believe it's already February of 2019.  While the celebration of the Solar Calendar New Year worldwide is already behind us, the Lunar New Year is around the corner.

The Lunar New Year, also known as "Spring Festival", is still the most important festival celebrated in some Eastern Asian countries. A lunar calendar is based on cycles of the moon phases. The first day of Lunar New Year begins on the new moon that appears between Jan 21 and Feb 20. In 2019, the first day of the Lunar New Year will be on Tue, Feb 5th, initiating the year of Pig. Observances traditionally take place from the evening preceding the first day of the Lunar New Year to the Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year which is the first full moon day of the lunar calendar year.

This year, Chinese American Families along with BURR PTO are coming together to host a Lunar New Year potluck party on Sunday, Feb 10, at 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the cafeteria. All BURR families are cordially invited to this biggest Eastern Asian holiday celebration.  There will be Asian Food, Arts and Crafts, Culture displays and Performances by BURR families /neighbors and lots of fun.
