What does a “NPS Budget Crisis” mean?

Dr. Nolin has proposed a “Level Services Plus” budget; however, the current city budget allocation for NPS is insufficient, resulting in a shortfall of $3.7 million.

Without an increased budget, NPS will face significant challenges:
  • No Behavior Therapists
  • Less Professional Development
  • Bigger Classes / Teacher Cuts
  • No Math & Literacy Interventionists

What Can You Do?

  • Attend a School Committee Meeting
  • Write or Call the School Committee - Say you support the Superintendent's Proposed Budget and want them to pass it.
  • Write or Call the Mayor - Say you support the Superintendent's Proposed Budget and want her to increase the allocation to Newton Public Schools.
  • Talk it up! - Reach out to neighbors and friends, especially those without students at NPS.  Only 30% of Newton voters have students at NPS, and many people who don't have students aren't paying attention.
